I didn't realize snowmobiles could get stuck in snow. Is it because it gets too soft for the cat-track to push against or because the snow won't hold the weight of the sled?

Usually what happens is the snowmobile sinks in the snow and then doesn't have enough traction or power to push itself out. Some snowmobiles are better than others and some are designed to go through powder. These usually have larger engine and longer tracks. The snowmobile we were on was a three person snowmobile that was designed to go on groomed trails.
